The Watanabes are a neo-folk rock band from Japan, currently performing and recording in Tokyo. The band members include:
- Ashley Davies from New Zealand on bass
- Flavio Jerome from Belgium on drums/vocals
- Duncan Walsh from the UK on guitar/vocals
- Selwyn Walsh from the UK on guitar/vocals
- Sefan Samuelsson from Sweden on keyboard
The band originally formed in the rural paradise of Ehime in Western Japan. After 2 years on Shikoku, the band relocated to Tokyo in order to record their debut album Independent Social Power, which was released in November 2008. They can now be seen live at various dungeon-like livehouses around Tokyo, and when off duty, they can often be heard having earnest band discussions over milkshakes at Tokyo diners. They also enjoy flower arranging.
