“LETS ENJOY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT THE WATANABES!”

(… Popular Questions often asked about the band….)

1) Is Killing a Snake about masturbation?

Excuse me?! Conventional questions please.

2) Ok … who started the band?

Charismatic American, Dave Glick from Chicago. He played lead guitar and organized the band’s first ever gig at Bar Standard in Matsuyama on a warm summer’s evening in July 2005.  The performance was a remarkable success, but just a few weeks later Dave broke the news to the band that he would be leaving Japan to return home to America to marry his beloved fiance. Just days after his return to America he was promptly dumped. We will never forgive her.  And we suspect Dave won’t either.

3) Why are they called The Watanabes?

A surprisingly difficult question. Although one suspects it could be due to their love of Nabe, Ken Watanabe, the beautiful people of Ehime  (many of whom are called Watanabe), Sachie Watanabe (an Ehime girl who Duncan once fancied), or The Smiths (who are basically the British Watanabes.)

4) Shouldn’t that be the other way around?

Well, I mean, just ask yourself; who’s the bigger band?

5) In Love Princess, it is claimed by Duncan that he has passed Niikyu (a Japanese Proficiency Exam). Is this actually true?

This is a blatant lie. Although Ash has passed the exam, and speaks exceptional Japanese. As does Flavio. The Walshy brothers can ask girls for their phone numbers. However it is still debateable whether they can use a toilet.

6) Who cares about the music – who is the stunner in the video?

Our very good friend, the very beautiful and the very talented Miss Yuriko Kawami from Ehime – selected because she was secretly fancied by every single member of the band.

7) Is Killing a Snake really about … well, what we all suspect it is about?

I’ve warned you already you dirty perverted piece of …

8) Oh come on …

Well, let me put this to you. There is a Japanese book where a man kills a snake in order to save a beautiful woman. None of the other Watanabes have come across this famous tale, but Ashley claims to have read it. So I suppose the case remains open.

9) Is it true that The Watanabes had a naked photo shoot together in an Onsen?

Yes. Although the photos were tasteful and remained solely within the band.

10) How do The Watanabes like to spend their free time?

On a Friday night The Watanabes love nothing more than to eat sushi together discussing their lack of success with women.

11) But being in a band, surely the boys are rolling in women right?

Unfortunately not, although Asahi beer poster girls are a great source of comfort to the band and are regularly exchanged between members.

12) Has Flavio got a girlfriend?

You must be joking – he’s not nearly old enough for a girlfriend yet.

13) Is it really true that the Walsh brothers call each other Walshy?

100% true. In fact, they call their own mother Walshy.

14) Which Walshy is cooler.

Without doubt Walshy is. That is, Walshy … the little brother Walshy.

15) You mean there is a third Walshy!

That’s right – Walshy. Check out Kieran Walsh and The Watanabes on Last Fm!

16) Who has been the biggest influence on The Watanabes.

Without a shadow of a doubt: SEAL.
